Hugo Winterhalter was an American orchestra leader, arranger, and composer. He was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1909 and began playing the piano at an early age. He studied music at the Vienna Conservatory and later worked as a pianist and arranger for various orchestras in Europe. In 1940, he moved to the United States and quickly became one of the most popular orchestra leaders in the country. He recorded over 100 albums and had several hit singles, including "The Poor People of Paris" and "Canadian Sunset." Winterhalter died in 1973 at the age of 64.
