Cuff the Duke

Cuff the Duke is a Canadian alt-country band that has deftly navigated the borders of indie rock and country music since their inception in the early 2000s. Originating in Oshawa, Ontario, they were formed by childhood friends Wayne Petti (vocals, guitar) and Jeff Peers, and later rounded out by bassist Paul Lowman and drummer Corey Wood. The band's distinctly emotional, roots-inflected sound is marked by their deft storytelling and heartfelt performances, showcasing a blend of traditional country twangs with a modern, indie sensibility.

Over the years, Cuff the Duke has released a series of critically acclaimed albums that showcase the band's evolution and depth. Their eponymous album, "Cuff the Duke" (2005), announced their arrival with a confident mix of folk-rock and country, while their successive works, such as "Sidelines of the City" (2007), "Way Down Here" (2009), and "Morning Comes" (2011), have continued to delve deeper into the textures of Americana, highlighted by Wayne Petti's earnest vocal delivery and the band's tight musicianship. Their later releases, including "Union" (2012), "In Our Time" (2012), and "In Our Time II" (2013), reflect a matured sound with rich, introspective lyrics, solidifying their place in the pantheon of contemporary Canadian music acts. Amid covers such as "Face In The Mirror," a tribute to Gene MacLellan, Cuff the Duke remains a compelling and innovative presence in music with their timeless sound and unvarnished lyricism.
