Iona Zajac

Iona Zajac is a Scottish multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter known for her evocative blend of folk, indie pop, and poetic lyricism. Growing up in Edinburgh, she learned to play the Clarsach harp, Scotland’s oldest national instrument, and later fronted the folk-blues trio Avocet between 2016 and 2020. While studying English Literature at Glasgow University, she began writing poetry, which she eventually set to music after learning guitar in 2020. Her debut solo EP, *Find Her in the Grass* (2022), grew from these roots, showcasing her delicate, introspective style. Zajac has continued to gain recognition, releasing her highly anticipated debut album *Bang* in November 2025, which features strong, candid songwriting exploring themes of anger, liberation, and personal reflection. She also tours as a vocalist with The Pogues and has performed at notable festivals worldwide such as SXSW, Dot to Dot, and Eden Festival.

Her music often balances stark, raw emotions with captivating melodies, delivering an intimate yet powerful experience. Songs like “Dilute,” “Anton,” and the title track “Bang” highlight her fearless lyrical approach and dynamic vocals. Currently dividing her time between Glasgow and Dublin, Iona Zajac remains deeply connected to folk traditions while embracing contemporary sounds, regularly performing traditional folk songs acapella at Irish singing sessions when not on tour.
