Giancarlo Bigazzi

Giancarlo Bigazzi was a prolific Italian songwriter, composer, and producer, known for his remarkable contributions to Italian pop music from the 1970s through the 1990s. Born in Florence in 1940, Bigazzi penned numerous hits for major Italian artists like Umberto Tozzi, Gianni Bella, and Mia Martini. He's also known internationally for co-writing “Gloria,” “Self Control,” and other songs that became chart-toppers in both Europe and the U.S.

Beyond pop music, Bigazzi ventured into film scoring, including composing for the Oscar-winning movie Mediterraneo (1991). His songwriting often blended emotive melodies with poignant lyrics, making him a staple in both the Italian and international music scenes. Bigazzi passed away in 2012, but his legacy lives on through the timeless hits he helped create.
