The Posies

The Posies are an American power pop band formed in 1987 in Bellingham, Washington, by primary songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow. The band drew inspiration from a harmonious blend of 1960s classic pop and 1970s punk rock, concocting an infectious brand of guitar-driven, melody-rich music. Gaining initial attention through their independently released debut album, "Failure," The Posies quickly built up a loyal fanbase. They solidified their presence on the music scene with the critically lauded follow-ups, "Dear 23" and "Frosting On The Beater," the latter of which contained their breakout hit "Dream All Day."

Over the years, The Posies' sound evolved and matured, as evidenced in albums like "Amazing Disgrace" and "Success," which leaned towards a darker, more dynamic alternative rock approach. Despite lineup changes and the band members' involvement in various other projects—including Auer and Stringfellow's stints with the reformed Big Star—the band persisted, releasing albums such as "Every Kind of Light" and "Blood/Candy" that continued to highlight their knack for crafty songwriting and intricate, enduring harmonies. Their more recent works like "Solid States" and the single "Sideways" maintain their relevance in the alternative and indie rock landscape, showcasing their ability to adapt and inject fresh energy into their music while staying true to the melodic core that has defined their sound for decades.
