Mogens Woldike

Mogens Woldike was a Danish conductor, organist, and music scholar known for his deep engagement with early music and the Classical-era repertoire. Born in 1897, he became a significant figure in Denmark’s music scene throughout the 20th century. Woldike had a particular affinity for the works of J.S. Bach, Mozart, and Haydn, and he helped pioneer historically informed performance practices at a time when that approach was still emerging.

He conducted both orchestral and choral works and held prominent posts with ensembles like the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Copenhagen Boys Choir, which he founded. Woldike also made influential recordings, especially of Baroque and Classical symphonies, many of which are still appreciated for their clarity and stylistic insight. He passed away in 1988, leaving behind a legacy as a key advocate for thoughtful, scholarly interpretations of early music.
