Obo Addy was a Ghanaian master drummer, composer, and educator known for his incredible contributions to African music and world percussion. Born in Ghana in 1936, he was one of the first musicians to introduce traditional Ghanaian drumming and highlife music to international audiences. Addy blended traditional rhythms with contemporary influences, helping to bridge musical cultures and educate people worldwide about West African traditions. After moving to the United States, he became a key figure in Portland, Oregon’s music scene, founding the group Okropong and sharing his knowledge through performances and workshops. His dynamic drumming and deep cultural roots made him a global ambassador for Ghanaian music.
