Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1943, Keys cut his teeth working with legends like Ray Charles and Ahmad Jamal before dropping his fiery debut *Shawn-Neeq* on the iconic Black Jazz Records label. His playing—a warm blend of bluesy grit, bebop fluency, and soulful phrasing—has made him a unsung hero of jazz guitar, influencing generations of players. Recent albums like *Proceed with Caution!* and *Full Court Press* prove he’s still got that spark, mixing earthy grooves with exploratory energy.
