Hiroshima

Hiroshima is a unique and pioneering music ensemble formed in 1974 by Sansei (third-generation Japanese-American) musician Dan Kuramoto and June Kuramoto, who is considered to be among the world's leading koto players. The band's eponymous debut album, "Hiroshima," released in 1979, marked the genesis of their innovative blend of jazz, pop, and traditional Japanese music, a sound that has become their signature over the decades. Hiroshima has been instrumental in paving the way for contemporary world music, merging Eastern and Western musical concepts to create a fusion that is both innovative and accessible.

Over the years, Hiroshima has built a formidable discography and a dedicated fan base around the globe. Their album "Another Place" (1985) solidified their reputation for its smooth fusion style, followed by the successful "East" (1989), which reflected deeper Asian influences. The band's longevity and productivity have seen them release a number of highly regarded albums, with "Legacy" (2009) serving as a celebration of their three decades of music, revisiting some of the most loved tracks in their extensive catalogue. With their subsequent albums, like "Departure" (2011) and the more recent "2020" (2020), Hiroshima continues to uphold their musical values while also incorporating contemporary elements, ensuring their sound remains fresh and relevant. The band's commitment to both artistic expression and cultural representation continues to resonate with audiences around the world, solidifying Hiroshima's place as a unique and enduring figure in world and jazz music scenes.
