SOPHIE, born Sophie Xeon on September 17, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland, was a groundbreaking and influential musician, producer, and DJ known for their distinctive approach to electronic music that challenged and reshaped the boundaries of pop, dance, and avant-garde genres. Their work, marked by an innovative use of synthesized sounds, crisp pop sensibilities, and hyperkinetic production, has been widely recognized for its contribution to the modern pop and electronic music landscape.
SOPHIE’s career took flight with a series of singles in the early 2010s that showcased their novel sound, culminating in the critically acclaimed debut studio album, "OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES," released in 2018. This album not only earned SOPHIE a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album but also cemented their status as a transformative artist within the industry. Known for a unique and confrontational visual aesthetic matched by a fearless exploration of identity and expression, SOPHIE's music and public presence became symbols of empowerment for the LGBTQ+ community. Tragically, SOPHIE's life and burgeoning career were cut short on January 30, 2021, following an accidental fall in Athens, Greece. Despite their untimely passing, SOPHIE's influence continues to grow, inspiring a new generation of artists to think outside of conventional norms and embrace the full spectrum of their creative potential.
