Styles Of Beyond

Styles of Beyond is an underground hip hop group hailing from Los Angeles, California, known for their innovative and energetic approach to the genre. The group, formed in 1994, consists of MCs Ryu (Ryan Patrick Maginn) and Takbir Bashir, producers DJ Cheapshot and Vin Skully, and the late DJ Jason "JabbaWockeeZ" Fernandez who passed away before the group’s rise to fame. Styles of Beyond catapulted to the forefront of the underground hip hop scene with their debut album, "2000 Fold," in 1998. The album received critical acclaim for its sharp lyricism and dynamic production, establishing them as a force within the rap community and setting the stage for their future works.

They continued to build upon their early success with subsequent releases such as "Megadef" in 2003 and later "Reseda Beach" in 2012, further refining their sound and featuring collaborations with artists such as Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Notably, the group garnered considerable exposure through their association with Shinoda’s side project, Fort Minor, and their track "Remember the Name," as well as through high profile placements like the "Nine Thou (Grant Mohrman Superstars Remix)" being featured on the soundtrack for the original "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" video game. Over the years, Styles of Beyond has been recognized for their unique blend of sharp West Coast rap with the infectious energy of alternative rock and electronic music. This was further exemplified when their song "Shapeshifter" was remixed multiple times, fusing the track with different musical stylings and introducing their legacy to new audiences. Despite facing the typical ebbs and flows of the music industry, Styles of Beyond has maintained a loyal fan base and continues to have an impact on the evolution of alternative hip hop.
