System Of A Down

System of a Down, often abbreviated as SOAD, is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. The band consists of Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass), and John Dolmayan (drums). Renowned for their intense live performances and unconventional song structures, System of a Down quickly rose to fame with their unique blend of nu metal, progressive rock, and thrash influences, along with elements derived from Armenian folk music. Their lyrics often carry political and social commentary, reflecting their commitment to raising awareness about issues such as genocide, war, and censorship.

The band achieved broad commercial success with their sophomore album "Toxicity" (2001), which includes hits like "Chop Suey!" and "Aerials." This album propelled them into the mainstream limelight and solidified their stance in the metal community. Following a brief hiatus, they reunited to release two albums in 2005, "Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize," which were both critically acclaimed and continued the band's streak of popularity. Despite going on a longer hiatus in terms of releasing new albums, System of a Down made a triumphant return in 2020 with the singles "Protect The Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz," addressing the conflicts involving Armenia and Artsakh, showcasing the members' continued activism and musical dynamism. Their extensive discography, starting with their eponymous debut album in 1998, unites a diverse fanbase across the globe and cements their place as one of the most distinctive and influential metal bands of their time.
