Channi Singh, known as the "godfather" of bhangra in the West, co-founded Alaap with Harjeet Gandhi, Randhir Sahota, and Inder Kalsi. The group revolutionized Punjabi music by blending Western and traditional folk instruments, creating a modern style known as UK Bhangra. Alaap has performed at prestigious venues like Madison Square Garden, Royal Albert Hall, and Al-Nasir Indoor Stadium in Dubai. They were the first British Asian band to perform in Pakistan in 1992. Channi Singh has received numerous accolades, including an OBE for his contributions to music and community service.
