Doug Raney

Doug Raney was an accomplished jazz guitarist, known for his lyrical style and deep roots in the bebop and post-bop traditions. Born in 1956, he was the son of the legendary jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney, and he carved out his own impressive career while honoring that family legacy. Doug developed a fluid, melodic approach to the guitar that drew comparisons to greats like Wes Montgomery and his own father, and by the time he was in his twenties, he was already turning heads in both the U.S. and European jazz scenes.

After relocating to Copenhagen, Denmark, Doug became a key figure in the European jazz community, collaborating frequently with top-tier musicians and recording prolifically throughout the 1980s and '90s. Albums like Never Say Yes and Blues for Thad showcase his tasteful phrasing and impressive technique.
