Egidius Streiff is a Swiss violinist and music producer born in 1967 in Jonen, Canton Aargau. Growing up in the Swiss countryside as the youngest child in a musical family, he developed a strong connection to music early on. He studied violin under notable teachers such as Hansheinz Schneeberger, David Takeno, and Walter Levin, and earned his soloist diploma from the Musik-Akademie Basel in 1994. Streiff has participated in numerous chamber music ensembles and served as concertmaster, as well as guesting with the SWR Symphony Orchestra. His career is distinguished by a focus on contemporary music, premiering violin concertos written for him by composers like Wen Deqing, Lothar Voigtländer, and Wang Xilin, and he has performed internationally, including in China and Brazil.
In addition to his solo and chamber work, Egidius Streiff is involved in experimental music projects, including collaborations with live electronics and percussion. He also teaches at the Musik Akademie Basel, providing individual violin lessons and orchestral coaching. Streiff is known for his commitment to contemporary and avant-garde repertoire, regularly performing and premiering new works by composers such as Klaus Huber and Isang Yun.
