OSMIUM

OSMIUM is an experimental supergroup formed in 2022, composed of illustrious musicians including Oscar-winning Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, Grammy-winning British sound designer and producer Sam Slater, producer James Ginzburg (known for his work with Emptyset and Subtext), and Indonesian vocalist Rully Shabara of Senyawa. The group creates a unique blend of ritualistic electro-mechanical metal, combining burnished electroacoustic soundscapes, dense metallic drones, barbed rhythms, and bio-mechanical vocalizations. Their music explores themes like the relationship between humans and technology, tradition and progression, and individuality versus community, drawing influences from folk, doom metal, industrial, minimalism, and extreme noise. They use specially built instruments such as the halldorophone, custom self-oscillating drums, and a single-stringed resonator to craft their distinctive sound.

OSMIUM released their self-titled debut album on June 20, 2025, via Invada Records, gaining attention for its hypnotic, primal noise and intense, immersive performances. Their music has been premiered live at events like Unsound, delivering a mesmerizing experience driven by Rully Shabara's hallucinatory vocals and the hypnotic interplay of complex instrumental textures. The group’s members bring rich backgrounds from acclaimed projects and collaborations across experimental, electronic, and avant-garde music scenes.
