Lew Soloff

Lew Soloff was a powerhouse jazz trumpeter best known for his virtuosic technique and versatility across genres. Born in 1944, he gained wide recognition as a member of Blood, Sweat & Tears in the late 1960s, contributing his soaring, classically-trained trumpet sound to the band's Grammy-winning work, including the hit "Spinning Wheel." Beyond his time with the group, Soloff had a prolific career as a sideman and solo artist, performing with jazz legends like Gil Evans, Carla Bley, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

In addition to his work in jazz, Soloff was known for his adaptability, playing everything from classical to Latin music, and working with artists ranging from Pierre Boulez to Paul Simon. His tone and improvisational skills made him a favorite in both studio and live settings. Lew Soloff continued performing and recording throughout his life, and his deep musicality left a lasting mark on the world of jazz trumpet before his passing in 2015.
