Turibio Santos

Turíbio Santos is one of Brazil's most esteemed classical guitar virtuosos, widely recognized for his mastery of the instrument and his deep dedication to the music of his homeland. Born in Rio de Janeiro on March 7, 1943, Santos displayed an early affinity for the guitar. He pursued his formal studies in Brazil and further honed his skills in Spain under the tutelage of the legendary Andrés Segovia. Throughout his illustrious career, Santos has been a vigorous promoter of Brazilian music, often infusing traditional elements into his interpretations and programs.

With a discography that spans several decades, Turíbio Santos has contributed significantly to the classical guitar repertoire, with a particular focus on the works of Heitor Villa-Lobos. Among his most recent releases are "Choros do Brasil" and "Brasileiríssimo," both of which showcase his devotion to Brazilian rhythms and melodies. His collaborations, such as "Turíbio Santos e Orquestra de Violões do Rio de Janeiro" and "Turibio Santos & A Grande Orquestra De Violões," demonstrate his ability to seamlessly blend the solo instrument with lush orchestral arrangements. Apart from his impressive recordings, Santos is also noted for his contributions to music education, having directed the Villa-Lobos Museum in Rio de Janeiro and regularly conducting master classes. His dedication to the arts has earned Santos numerous accolades, cementing his status as a leading ambassador of Brazilian classical guitar music.
