The Suburban Studs were an English punk rock band formed in Birmingham in 1976. Initially known as the Zipper Kids, they quickly rebranded as the Suburban Studs after just two gigs. The band consisted of Eddy Zipps (vocals/guitar), Keith Owen (guitar), Paul Morton (bass), Steve Poole (drums), and briefly, Steve Heart (saxophone) before he left to form the Neon Hearts. They were among the first bands signed to the independent label Pogo Records, which had a distribution deal with WEA Records. Despite their energetic performances, which included supporting acts like the Sex Pistols and The Clash, the band struggled to achieve mainstream success. Their output included two singles and an album, *Slam*, released in 1977, which showcased their punk sound despite receiving lukewarm reviews.
The Suburban Studs maintained a strong presence in the Birmingham punk scene, particularly at venues like Barbarellas. They appeared on the *Hope & Anchor Front Row Festival* double compilation in 1978. The band eventually faded from prominence but reformed briefly in 1996 for the Holidays in the Sun punk festival in Blackpool. Their music has been re-released over the years, including an expanded edition of *Slam*, which includes rare demos and a John Peel session from 1977.
