Gerhana Skacinta

Gerhana Skacinta is a Kuala Lumpur-based band that emerged from Malaysia's ska revival scene in the late 1990s. The band is known for its pure, traditional approach to the ska genre, drawing influences from iconic bands like The Skatalites and The Wailers. Gerhana Skacinta was formed by Edy J Herwan and includes a lineup of talented musicians playing a variety of instruments such as trumpet, trombone, drums, guitar, piano, and bass. The band's early success included participation in compilation albums and singles, such as "Tribute to Sweet Charity" and "Skali Skale," before releasing full-length albums like "The New Authentic" and "This Is Ska." Notably, "The New Authentic" achieved significant commercial success, selling over 20,000 copies and earning nominations at major music awards ceremonies.

Gerhana Skacinta's style spans not only ska but also rocksteady, reggae, and dub. The band has been signed to Clockwork Records and has experienced changes in its lineup over the years, but Edy J Herwan's vision has remained consistent. Their music often reflects a rootsy purity, sticking to traditional styles while engaging with contemporary audiences. Hits like "Senyuman Ragamu" and collaborations such as "Sayang" with Altimet, Salam, and Nabila Huda showcase their eclectic sound and enduring appeal in the Malaysian music scene. Through numerous live performances and studio releases, Gerhana Skacinta has established itself as a significant force in maintaining the vibrancy of traditional ska.
