Kirby Lauryen Dockery, known simply as KIRBY, is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee, raised in Southaven, Mississippi. She started her music journey at the Stax Music Academy and briefly attended Berklee College of Music before leaving in 2012 to pursue a full-time music career. KIRBY gained attention by posting an original song every day on YouTube for almost a year, which led to a signing with Roc Nation. She has written hits for top artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, and Jennifer Lopez, including the notable track "FourFiveSeconds" performed by Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney. After establishing herself as a songwriter, she stepped into the spotlight as a performer, releasing her debut EP *Sis* in 2020, which focuses on themes of female empowerment and love.
Continuing to build her solo career, KIRBY announced her new album *Miss Black America* in 2025, a deeply personal project celebrating her Mississippi roots and the Black experience in the rural South. The album features collaborations with Mississippi rapper BIG K.R.I.T. and blends soulful melodies with powerful social commentary, embodying a love letter to the land and ancestors that shaped her worldview. Known for her heartfelt lyrics and rich vocal delivery, KIRBY is a rising force blending songwriting prowess with a compelling artistic vision.
