Hernando Franco

Hernando Franco was a Spanish composer and musician who lived in the 16th century. He's known for his work in New Spain (modern-day Mexico) and is considered one of the most important early colonial composers in the Americas. Franco spent much of his career as chapel master at Mexico City Cathedral, where he composed religious music in the Renaissance polyphonic style. His works, mainly motets and other sacred pieces, blend European musical traditions with elements inspired by his new surroundings in the Americas.

While Franco's music wasn't widely known for centuries, there's been a resurgence of interest in recent years. His compositions have been featured on albums exploring the Baroque music of Latin America, helping to shed light on the rich musical heritage of colonial Mexico.
