Don Marino Barreto Jr. was a Cuban-Italian pop singer and musician born on December 8, 1925, in Matanzas, Cuba. After moving to Italy in 1949, he started his career as a contrabassist before gaining fame for his smooth vocal style. His biggest hit was "Arrivederci," which topped the Italian charts in 1959 and earned a Gold Record. He also had several other popular songs including "Telefonami," "Visino d'angelo," "È vero," and "Non lasciarmi." Despite a decline in commercial success in the early 1960s, Don Marino Barreto Jr. continued to perform live until his death from cirrhosis on December 10, 1971, in Milan, just two days after his 46th birthday. He is sometimes confused with his half-brother, Don Marino Barreto, who had a separate singing career in Britain.
Barreto's music blends Latin flavors with Italian pop, creating a unique atmosphere that captivated audiences during his career. His legacy includes a number of remastered collections and rarities that highlight the charm and warmth of his performances, keeping his soulful voice alive for new generations of listeners.
