Nihiloxica

Nihiloxica is an eclectic musical project that transcends borders and genres, bringing together the traditional rhythms of Ugandan percussion with the underground electronic sounds of techno. Formed in 2017 as a collaboration between Ugandan drummers from the Nilotica Cultural Ensemble and UK-based producers Spooky-J and pq, Nihiloxica aims at establishing a powerful and dark sound that is both forward-thinking and deeply rooted in the traditional musical heritage of East Africa.

The group's ascent to recognition was marked by their self-titled EP 'Nihiloxica,' which laid down the foundation for their unique blend of hypnotic beats and organic percussion. With each subsequent release, including the tracks "Biiri", "Tewali Sukali", and "Black Kaveera," Nihiloxica has continued to innovate and refine their sound, leading to the acclaimed full-length album 'Kaloli' and the follow-up project, 'Kaloli Recycled'. Their sound is characterized by intense polyrhythms, brooding synthesizers, and a raw, unpolished energy that manages to captivate listeners, both on record and in their explosive live performances. Nihiloxica’s work is not only a showcase of musical prowess but also an exploration of cross-cultural connections and modern expression through age-old traditions.
