Guilherme Coutinho was a Brazilian band leader and keyboard player known for his unique blend of lo-fi funk and Brazilian lounge music. Growing up in Belém, far from Brazil's main cultural centers, he began playing music at the age of five and developed a distinctive style marked by relaxed percussion, electric keyboards, and space-age synth sounds that gave his work a fresh, tropical vibe beyond traditional bossa nova. His self-titled album with Grupo Stalo, originally released in 1978 and recently reissued, showcases his talents and has earned him cult status among enthusiasts of Brazilian music. Sadly, Coutinho passed away in 1983 at the young age of 41, but his music continues to enchant listeners with its moody fusion and original songwriting.
