Marko Perković Thompson

Marko Perković, better known as Thompson, is a Croatian musician and the lead singer of the band Thompson since 1991. Born on October 27, 1966, in Čavoglave, SR Croatia, within the former Yugoslavia, Perković rose to fame during the Croatian War of Independence with his nationalist song "Bojna Čavoglave" (Čavoglave Battalion). This song was an anthem for the territorial defense unit in his hometown and marked the beginning of his music career. Thompson is known for its ethno hard rock style, and the band's name originates from the Thompson submachine gun, which Perković used during the war. Over the years, Thompson has gained significant popularity in Croatia and internationally, with notable albums and tours, including the successful "E, moj narode" tour in 2002.

Perković has been organizing annual Victory Day celebrations in his hometown of Čavoglave, which have drawn large crowds. His music and performances have sometimes been controversial due to allegations of glorifying or promoting the World War II-era Ustaše regime. Despite this, Thompson remains a prominent figure in Croatian music, with a dedicated fan base and a legacy tied to the country's history and identity. Perković's influences include bands like Iron Maiden and AC/DC, reflecting his eclectic musical style.
