Ben Allison is a forward-thinking bassist, composer, and bandleader who’s spent decades carving out his own space in modern jazz. Known for his genre-bending style and knack for blending intricate improvisation with catchy, melodic hooks, he’s released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including the remastered gems *Cowboy Justice* and *Buzz*. His recent work, like *Tell the Birds I Said Hello* and *Healing Power*, pays homage to jazz legends Herbie Nichols and Carla Bley, showcasing his deep respect for the tradition while pushing it into new territory. A co-founder of the Jazz Composers Collective, Allison has championed original music and collaboration, leading dynamic groups that balance adventurousness with accessibility.
