Exhorder is a thrash/groove metal band hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, originally formed in the mid-1980s. They're often credited as one of the earliest bands to fuse the aggressive speed of thrash with the sludgy swagger that would later define groove metal—a sound that helped pave the way for bands like Pantera. Their early albums, most notably 1990's Slaughter in the Vatican and 1992's The Law, became cult favorites for their raw energy, biting lyrics, and crushing riffs.
After a long hiatus, Exhorder reformed and released Mourn the Southern Skies in 2019, marking their first studio album in over 25 years and showing they hadn't lost their incendiary edge. Known for their intense live performances and the gritty charm of frontman Kyle Thomas, Exhorder remains a vital force in the heavy music scene, continuing to influence new generations of metal bands with their uncompromising approach and Southern-rooted aggression.
