Idaho

Idaho is an American indie rock band formed in 1992 in Los Angeles by Jeff Martin and John K. Berry. Known for its somber, down-tempo melodies and introspective lyrics, Idaho falls within a sub-genre often referred to as "slowcore" or "sadcore." The band's sound is characterized by Martin's distinctive, husky voice and his use of "four-string" guitars which he frequently plays with a cello bow, creating a unique, atmospheric quality. Over the years, the lineup around Jeff Martin has changed several times, with Martin being the only constant member and primary creative force behind Idaho's evolving soundscape.

Idaho has garnered critical acclaim throughout its three decades of existence, though it has often flown under the mainstream radar. The band's discography is marked by a steady output of evocative albums that deeply resonate with their fanbase. Starting with their debut "Year After Year" in 1993, Idaho's rich catalog includes notable releases such as "Three Sheets To The Wind" and "Hearts of Palm," the latter of which is frequently cited as a fan favorite. Their nuanced and textural approach to songwriting is also displayed in their 2011 album, "You Were a Dick," which showcases Martin's matured songcraft. Though they may not top the charts, Idaho's commitment to artistic integrity and the emotional depth of their music has secured them a devoted following and an enduring legacy in the indie music scene.
