Azymuth

Azymuth is a renowned Brazilian jazz-funk trio that has been a major influence in the world of jazz, funk, samba, and electronic music since its formation in the early 1970s. Composed of the late José Roberto Bertrami on keyboards, Alex Malheiros on bass, and Ivan Conti on drums, the band's innovative sound blends traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary jazz and funk, pioneering a genre often referred to as samba doido, which translates to "crazy samba." With Bertrami's virtuoso keyboard skills, Malheiros' groovy basslines, and Conti's precise drumming, Azymuth has created a musical legacy that continues to inspire new generations of musicians.

Over the years, Azymuth has recorded extensively and their discography showcases an eclectic mix of sounds that have evolved over time while retaining the core essence of their style. Their recent releases, such as "Melo da Cuíca (Aureum Remix)" and "Azymuth JID004," show the band's willingness to explore and embrace remix culture, letting their timeless tracks be reinterpreted with contemporary flair. "Demos (1973-1975), Vol. 1 & 2" offers fans a peek into their formative years with raw and energetic sessions that would eventually shape their legendary sound. Despite the passing of keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami in 2012, Azymuth continues to demonstrate resilience and innovation, as heard in their album "Fênix," making clear that the spirit of Azymuth endures through their rhythm-infused melodies and innovative Brazilian beats.
