Cave In

Cave In is a band whose sonic legacy threads through the heart of heavy music with a kaleidoscope of styles ranging from hardcore punk to metal to experimental rock. Formed in Methuen, Massachusetts, in 1995, the original lineup comprised vocalist and guitarist Stephen Brodsky, guitarist Adam McGrath, bassist John-Robert Conners, and drummer Jay Frechette. Over the years, the lineup experienced shifts, most notably with the addition of bassist Caleb Scofield in 1998, whose tenure with the group became a defining element of their sound until his tragic passing in 2018.

Cave In's discography is a testament to their adaptability and willingness to defy genre conventions. With early releases embracing a hardcore aesthetic, the band evolved through the years, achieving critical acclaim with their 2000's release "Jupiter," which introduced a more melodic and space rock influence. Their 2003 album "Antenna" saw them flirting with mainstream accessibility, while later works like 2011's "White Silence" and the posthumously released "Final Transmission" in 2019, which featured the last contributions of Caleb Scofield, saw the band returning to a heavier and more experimental sound. Their latest offering, "Heavy Pendulum," and its accompanying live rendition from the Maida Vale Studios showcase the depth and intensity of their craft, solidifying Cave In's place as stalwarts in the rock and metal community. Their journey has been punctuated by hiatuses, side projects, and reunions, but through it all, they've maintained a dedicated fanbase, drawn to their unique ability to shift and meld genres while preserving a distinct and dynamic sonic identity.
