Cluster

Cluster was a pioneering German electronic music duo, formed by Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius in 1971. Emerging out of the avant-garde musical nexus that also spawned Krautrock bands such as Can and Kraftwerk, Cluster delved into ambient soundscapes, minimalism, and the innovative use of synthesizers and other electronic instruments, helping lay the groundwork for genres like electronica, ambient, and post-rock.

Their debut album "Cluster 71" was released to critical acclaim for its groundbreaking atmospheric sounds, which moved away from traditional musical structures and delved into sonic abstraction. Through the 1970s, Cluster continued to evolve, releasing albums like "Cluster II", "Zuckerzeit", and "Sowiesoso", the latter two showing a more harmonious and melodic side of their work. In 1977, Cluster collaborated with Brian Eno, resulting in the "Cluster & Eno" album, which remains a gem in the annals of ambient music. Although the band underwent several periods of hiatus and reformation, their later works like "Apropos Cluster", "One Hour", and "Qua" in the 1990s and 2000s, preserved their essential sound while demonstrating an ongoing creative vitality. The 2010s saw live releases like "Japan", "USA", and "Live in Vienna", which were testament to Cluster's enduring influence and dynamic performance capabilities until their eventual cessation as a group.
