Ruusut is an avant-garde Finnish pop band that has successfully carved out a niche in the Finnish music scene with a distinctive sound blending electronic elements, pop sensibilities, and a touch of melancholia. Formed in 2017, Ruusut is a collaboration of several seasoned musicians from the Finnish music scene, including Ringa Manner, known for her work with The Hearing; Alpo Nummelin, previously known for his work in the band Cityman; as well as producers Miikka Koivisto and Samuli Kukkola, also recognized for their involvement with other bands such as Disco Ensemble and Hisser, respectively.
The group quickly gained attention with their self-titled debut album "Ruusut" released in 2018, which won them the Teosto Prize, an accolade given for outstanding achievements in Finnish music composition. Their innovative and often experimental approach to music combines ethereal vocals, a variety of synth textures, and compelling beats. Through singles such as "Melankolia 1" and "Melankolia 2" that explore emotional depth with modern soundscapes, to the evocative tracks "Alku / Murha" and "Sä et tunne mua / Suuri sade", Ruusut has continued to captivate audiences and push the boundaries of pop music. Their subsequent releases, including their 12" EP and tracks like "<3 <3", "Kesä tulee aina yöllä", "Sirppi", "Kevätuhri", and "Haamuasema", further solidify their reputation as innovative musicians unafraid to explore and express complex emotional states through their music. Ruusut's artistry is a testament to the vibrant and evolving Finnish music scene, as they become one of the most interesting acts to emerge from the Nordics.
