Pitz gained significant recognition for his work as the chorus master of the Bayreuth Festival and later as the founding chorus master of the Philharmonia Chorus in London. Under his guidance, the Philharmonia Chorus developed a distinctive sound blending British choral tradition with German musical discipline, working with notable conductors like Otto Klemperer and Carlo Maria Giulini. Pitz passed away on November 21, 1973, in Aachen, Germany.
