Them Are Us Too was an American musical duo known for their ethereal and haunting brand of dream pop, drawing on influences from shoegaze, goth, and electronic music. Founded in 2012 in the vibrant creative spaces of the San Francisco Bay Area, the band consisted of Kennedy Ashlyn (vocals, keyboards) and Cash Askew (guitars, programming). Their musical chemistry was palpable from the outset, creating soundscapes that were lush and emotive, anchored by Ashlyn's soaring vocals and Askew's textural guitar work.
The duo's first full-length album, "Remain," released in 2015, established Them Are Us Too as a fresh voice in the underground music scene, earning them a dedicated following for its beautifully crafted melodies and poignant lyrical themes. Tragically, Cash Askew was one of the victims of the 2016 Ghost Ship warehouse fire in Oakland, an event that deeply affected the Bay Area artistic community. In a posthumous tribute to their work, the band's second album, "Amends," was released in 2018, featuring tracks that Ashlyn and Askew had written together before the tragedy. Additionally, a live performance recording, "Part Time Punks," has served as a testament to their vibrant presence in the music world, capturing the raw emotional energy and connection they fostered with their audience. Through their art, Them Are Us Too left a legacy that continues to resonate with fans and fellow musicians alike.
