Bunny Berigan was a powerhouse jazz trumpeter and bandleader during the swing era, best known for his soaring, passionate playing and rich, melodic tone. Born Roland Bernard Berigan in 1908, he made a name for himself as a sought-after session musician, working with top big bands of the 1930s, including Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. His 1937 recording of "I Can't Get Started" remains a jazz classic, showcasing his virtuosic trumpet skills and smooth vocals. Despite his immense talent and success, Berigan's career was tragically cut short due to health issues linked to alcoholism, and he passed away in 1942 at just 33. His influence on jazz trumpet and swing music can still be heard in the generations of musicians who followed.
