Étienne Nicolas Méhul was a French composer born in Givet, France in 1763. He is best known for his operas, which often featured historical or patriotic themes. Méhul's music was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and he was considered one of the leading composers of his time. He died in Paris in 1817 at the age of 54.
