Espers

Espers is an American psychedelic folk band hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, known for their ethereal and haunting sound that blends traditional folk music with elements of ambient and baroque pop. Formed in 2002, the band consists of core members Greg Weeks, Meg Baird, and Brooke Sietinsons, who combine their talents to create a mesmerizing soundscape characterized by intricate guitar work, lush harmonies, and meditative melodies.

Their self-titled debut album, "Espers," released in 2004, laid the foundation for their mystical sound, drawing listeners into a world of timeless folk traditions reimagined through a contemporary lens. The group's sophomore effort, "II," arrived in 2006, further refining their style and solidifying their place within the folk revival movement of the early 2000s. The following year, the band released "The Weed Tree," an EP that features a mix of original compositions and reinterpretations of classic songs, showcasing their ability to traverse musical epochs while remaining distinct in their artistic voice. "III," their third full-length album released in 2009, is an evocative continuation of their exploration into the depths of folk music, marked by a darker, more expansive sound that weaves a rich tapestry of acoustic and electric instrumentation. Though new releases have been sparse since then, Espers remains a beloved fixture in the underground folk scene, their recordings a testament to the band's unique ability to conjure the ancient within the modern musical landscape.
