Vágtázó Halottkémek

Vágtázó Halottkémek (translating to "Galloping Coroners" in English) are a legendary Hungarian experimental rock band formed in 1975, blending primal energy with shamanistic rituals and avant-garde music. Founded by vocalist/lyricist László "Kele" Káli in Budapest, the group became pioneers of "shaman punk" – a chaotic fusion of punk rock, folk traditions, and trance-inducing rhythms inspired by Central Asian spiritual practices. Their wild live shows, often featuring face paint, ecstatic dancing, and Kele’s guttural incantations, made them icons of Hungary’s underground counterculture during the Communist era and beyond.

Decades into their career, they’ve evolved while staying fiercely original, releasing albums like *Veled Haraptat Csillagot!* (2021) and *Az Éden Visszahódítása* (2022) that channel cosmic themes and ecological urgency. Their sound still crashes through genres, mixing distorted guitars, tribal percussion, and poetic Hungarian lyrics about nature’s power and humanity’s place in the universe. A cult favorite both at home and among adventurous international listeners, Vágtázó Halottkémek remain Hungary’s most mystically charged musical export.
