Saetia

Saetia was an influential screamo/emo band hailing from New York City, active from 1997 to 1999 during the genre’s formative years. Known for their raw, emotionally charged sound, they blended chaotic hardcore punk with melodic introspection, punctuated by Billy Werner’s visceral vocals and poetic, cryptic lyrics. The band’s lineup included members like Jamie Behar (guitar), Greg Drudy (drums, later founder of Level Plane Records), Steve Roche (bass), and Adam Marino (guitar), who collectively crafted a tense yet cathartic dynamic that became a blueprint for the screamo scene.

Though short-lived, Saetia left a lasting mark with releases like their self-titled 1997 demo and the 1999 compilation *A Retrospective*, which collected their scattered tracks (including fan favorites like “Venus and Bacchus,” “Some Natures Catch No Plagues,” and the ones you’ve listed). Their music balanced frenetic aggression with quiet, haunting passages, embodying the genre’s emotional extremes. After disbanding, members went on to projects like Hot Cross and Off Minor, but Saetia’s cult status persists, revered for their intensity and role in shaping underground post-hardcore.
