Jalen Seawright is a talented musician, dedicated pastor, and community advocate rooted in the Detroit area. Influenced by the rich musical heritage of Motown and Detroit Gospel, Jalen has spent much of his life serving urban churches in Michigan as a worship leader, music director, and preacher. Beyond local ministry, he travels nationally to teach and inspire churches on how art can advance the mission of justice. Jalen is part of the musical collective Common Hymnal, known for blending worship with social advocacy, and is featured on their powerful track “God Of Color,” which celebrates the beauty and significance of the melanated Christ. Alongside his musical and ministry work, Jalen is deeply committed to family life with his wife Keyonna and their three daughters, proudly embracing his role as a devoted "girl-dad".
Jalen’s mission goes beyond music—he actively engages with racial reconciliation and educates communities about Black history and justice through his arts and leadership. His songs and projects often challenge colonial narratives and uplift marginalized voices, embodying his passion for faith that inspires social change. His foundational years at Rochester Christian University shaped his dedication to using his gifts for service and leadership, culminating in being named the 2025 Alumnus of the Year. Jalen’s work eloquently merges worship, advocacy, and community empowerment, positioning him as a dynamic and influential figure in both the faith and music worlds.
