Pédro Kouyaté is a Malian musician born on September 10, 1977, in Bamako. He began his musical journey as a percussionist with the Symétric Orchestra, led by Toumani Diabaté, and later accompanied Malian bluesman Boubacar Traoré on tours across Africa, Europe, and the United States. In 2006, Kouyaté moved to Paris and formed his band, Pédro Kouyaté & Band, blending traditional Malian music with Western influences. His music spans genres like Afropop, jazz, and blues, reflecting his diverse musical experiences. Kouyaté has released several albums, including "One," "Two You," "Live," "Tramontane," and "Vis ta Vie," showcasing his versatility and creativity.
Kouyaté's career highlights include performing at notable venues and festivals, such as the Musée de la Cité de la Musique in Paris and the Jazz in Marciac festival. He has collaborated with various artists, including Archie Shepp and Jean-Philippe Rykiel, and has been involved in film projects, such as the musical film "Foly" by Sophie Comtet Kouyaté. His recent work includes the album "Vis ta Vie," which features a blend of electronic and blues elements, and he is preparing the release of "Following" with Jazzbook Records.
