Harald Vogel is a renowned German organist, musicologist, and teacher, widely recognized as one of the leading experts on North German organ music of the Baroque period. Born in 1941, Vogel has dedicated much of his career to the study and performance of historic organ repertoire, particularly works by composers like Dieterich Buxtehude, Heinrich Scheidemann, and early J.S. Bach. He's also deeply involved in historical performance practice, often playing on original or carefully restored period instruments to capture the authentic sound of the music.
Vogel has made a lasting impact not just through his numerous recordings and performances, but also through his teaching. He served for many years as a professor of organ and early music at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, where he trained a new generation of organists and scholars. His work in researching, preserving, and promoting the historic organs of Northern Germany, especially the famous instruments built by Arp Schnitger, has been particularly influential in the revival of interest in historical organ building and performance.
