V. G. Jog

V. G. Jog was a celebrated Indian violinist best known for his contributions to Hindustani classical music. Born in 1922, he trained under several distinguished gurus and quickly made a name for himself with his lyrical style and deep understanding of ragas. Jog was a pioneer in establishing the violin as a prominent solo instrument in North Indian classical tradition—an area where it hadn’t had as much prominence compared to the South Indian Carnatic tradition. Over his long and illustrious career, he performed extensively both in India and abroad, collaborating with other renowned maestros and leaving behind a rich legacy of recordings. His playing was known for its soulful expressiveness, technical mastery, and deep emotional resonance, making him one of the most respected figures in Indian classical music.
