M. S. Viswanathan

M. S. Viswanathan, often referred to as MSV or the Mellisai Mannar (the King of Light Music), was a legendary Indian music director and composer who left an indelible mark on the Tamil film music industry. Born on June 24, 1928, in Palakkad, Kerala and raised in Tamil Nadu, MSV's career spanned over five decades during which he composed music for over 1200 films, primarily in Tamil. His foray into the world of music was through the Tamil film industry, collaborating with iconic filmmakers and shaping the soundtracks of Indian cinema from the 1950s until the late 2000s.

MSV's music was characterized by a unique blend of Western and Indian classical sounds, often embellishing his compositions with folk melodies and the prevalent popular music of the era. His extensive volume of work includes memorable compositions such as "Amara Jeevitham (Lofi)," and soundtracks for films including "Vishwa Thulasi," "Thillu Mullu 2," and the classical collection "Tamil Film Songs 70-80s Vol. 3." Throughout his illustrious career, he collaborated with various other composers and lyricists, always managing to stay relevant through the changing tides of musical tastes. His notable recent releases not only highlight his versatility but also his ability to adapt to new trends within the industry. M. S. Viswanathan's death on July 14, 2015, left a void in the Indian music scene, but his melodious legacy continues to influence generations of musicians and music lovers worldwide.
