Mary Martin was an American actress and singer best known for her roles in Broadway musicals. She originated the role of Peter Pan in the 1954 musical of the same name, and also starred in "South Pacific," "The Sound of Music," and "Annie Get Your Gun." Martin was known for her powerful voice and charismatic stage presence, and she won four Tony Awards for her performances. She also had a successful career in television and film, appearing in such productions as "Peter Pan" (1953), "The Sound of Music" (1965), and "Hawaii" (1966). Martin died in 1990 at the age of 76.
