Jacqueline Blancard

Jacqueline Blancard was a French and Swiss classical pianist born in Paris on April 6, 1909. She studied piano at the Lausanne Conservatory and later at the Paris Conservatoire. Her training included working with renowned pianists like Isidor Philipp and Alfred Cortot, helping her master both German and modern French repertoire. Blancard was particularly highly regarded for her interpretations of Debussy and Schumann's works. In 1938, she made history by becoming the first pianist to record Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand, under the direction of Charles Munch. She also performed Mozart's piano concertos in New York.

Blancard's discography reflects her versatility, with recordings including works by Chopin, Ravel, Mozart, Brahms, and Schumann. She was associated with Decca Records for many of her recordings. Throughout her career, Blancard maintained a strong reputation as a pianist with a deep understanding of classical music's diverse styles. She passed away on November 25, 1994, in Geneva, Switzerland.
