Jörg-Peter Weigle is a renowned German conductor and music professor, born in 1953 in Greifswald. He received his early musical training as a member of the Thomanerchor in Leipzig from 1963 to 1971. Weigle furthered his education at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin, where he studied conducting, choral conducting, and counterpoint under notable teachers such as Horst Förster, Dietrich Knothe, and Ruth Zechlin. He also participated in master classes with Kurt Masur and Witold Rowicki.
Throughout his career, Weigle has held significant positions, including being the conductor of the Neubrandenburg State Symphony Orchestra, a regular conductor and later chief conductor of the Leipzig Radio Choir, and principal conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic. He has also been involved in world premieres and has served as Generalmusikdirektor of the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. Since 2001, Weigle has been a professor of choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" and was the school's rector from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, he has been the artistic director of the Philharmonischer Chor Berlin since 2003 and became Generalmusikdirektor of the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt in 2018. Weigle has received several awards for his contributions to music, including the Sächsische Verfassungsmedaille and the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Ring.
