Sarah MacDonald

Sarah MacDonald is a Canadian-born conductor, organist, pianist, and composer based in the UK. She holds the positions of Fellow and Director of Music at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and Director of the Girl Choristers at Ely Cathedral. Sarah has been at Selwyn since 1999, making her the first woman to hold such a post in an Oxbridge Chapel. She studied piano, organ, and conducting at The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School in Toronto before moving to Cambridge, where she read for a degree in Music and studied the organ with David Sanger. Sarah has conducted and performed extensively throughout the UK, North America, and Europe, and has made over 35 recordings. Her recent releases include notable choral works and organ performances, such as J S Bach's Goldberg Variations and various choral albums.

Sarah MacDonald is also a prolific composer with over 50 choral and organ compositions published worldwide. She is a winner of the Royal College of Organists’ Limpus Prize and holds the Fellowship diploma of the RCO. She is a teacher and examiner for the University of Cambridge and the RCO, and has taught at several prestigious institutions. Sarah is set to become the President of the Royal College of Organists in 2024, further solidifying her influence in the musical community. Her work spans conducting, composing, and teaching, making her a significant figure in the world of classical music.
