Cedric Burnside

Cedric Burnside is the embodiment of Mississippi Hill Country Blues—a genre defined by its rhythmic drive and deep connection to the soul of the American South. Born in 1978 in Holly Springs, Mississippi, Cedric's lineage is blues royalty. He is the grandson of the legendary R.L. Burnside, whose pulsing fife and drum-inspired music had a profound impact on Cedric's upbringing and career. From an early age, Burnside was immersed in the life and sounds of the blues, learning from his grandfather and other North Mississippi luminaries such as Junior Kimbrough.

Cedric Burnside's career is marked not only by his lineage but by his own innovation within the genre. With an energetic, percussive guitar style and soulful vocals, he has taken the Hill Country Blues to contemporary audiences. Partnering with his uncle, drummer Calvin Jackson, Cedric formed the 'Cedric Burnside Project,' propelling his career further as he captured the essence of the blues while forging his path. His albums, such as "2 Man Wrecking Crew," "Benton County Relic," and "I Be Trying," have been critically acclaimed, with "Benton County Relic" earning a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2019. Throughout his songs, Cedric chronicles the trials, tribulations, and the resilience of life in the Hill Country, serving as a testament to his profound connection to his roots and his ability to express universal emotions through his music.
